Checa pleased with Misano progress

Carlos Checa turns his attention to the final three rounds of the 2011 World Superbike Championship followin a successful test at Misano.
Carlos Checa is feeling confident heading into the final three rounds of the 2011 World Superbike Championship following a successful two-day test at Misano.

The Spaniard merely needs to maintain his superb form to the end of the season to wrap up the 2011 title for Althea Ducati, though he has given himself an even greater chance to achieve this early with a strong outing at Misano.

Though Yamaha's Marco Melandri, who is second in the standings 74 points behind his rival, emerged faster than him on both days, Checa was pleased with the consistency of his form over the course of the test.

“We're very happy with the results of these tests. Pirelli brought some new, high performance solutions for us to try and we were able to lap consistently fast. It was hot, with conditions similar to those of the June races, with a track temperature of around 44 degrees.

“Even though the asphalt was hot, the tyres behaved well and we were able to maintain fast times for numerous laps. We spent maybe 80% of our time working with the tyres and the rest trying some different things with regard to set up, all very positive.

“We even closed a little early because we worked so well yesterday and today that we finished all we had planned ahead of time!”

If he is not championship material then why is he leading the championship..?? Max Biaggi's Aprillia is certainly good enough to keep up with the Ducati but where is Biaggi, equally Melandri's Yamaha is also good enough and he is 74 points adrift Checa has ridden brilliantly against good opposition. To say his isn't championship material is a baffling thing to say.

There go the knockers again, makes me chuckle every time. Of course he is championship material, he is leading by a mile and will be champion this year. So many idiots on here do not realise what it takes to win. Every rider on that grid is an outstanding rider, they would not be there otherwise, so for one outstanding rider to beat another outstanding rider, everything for him has to be more perfect than for the other guy. We are talking very very small things to be exactly in place, and it only takes one thing not to gel, for the rider not to win. So please stop slagging these guys off all the time, after all, i would love to see any of you knockers get on these bikes and even be able to ride them, let alone fast!!!
