Parkes on pole again at Magny-Cours

Broc Parkes claims pole position by just 0.002secs from Luca Scassa, with Massimo Roccoli and Sam Lowes completing the front row.
Broc Parkes has taken his second consecutive World Supersport Championship pole position after edging out Luca Scassa by just two thousandths of a second at Magny-Cours.

The Australian, who started from the top spot at Imola on the way to third place in the race, steadily lowered his best as the Q2 session progressed, though it took time for him to surpass Massimo Roccoli's excellent provisional marker of 1min 41.490secs.

Eventually, it was Scassa that demoted his countryman down a spot when he burst to the front with a 1min 41.397secs in the closing stages, only for Parkes to sneak ahead with a 1min 41.395secs.

Behind the top two, Roccoli's Q1 effort was still good enough to seal him a strong front row start on the privateer Lorenzini Kawasaki, while practice pace setter Sam Lowes grabbed a spot on the edge of the leading positions in fourth.

James Ellison heads up the second row after a marked improvement on the Bogdanka PTR Honda, ahead of David Salom, while Fabien Foret begins just ahead of title rival Chaz Davies, the Briton having a quiet weekend as he focuses on getting the sixth place he needs to seal the championship.

Roberto Tamburini and Ronan Quarmby complete the top ten, the latter doing a good job on the Suriano Triumph to claim a third row position, while Gino Rea starts 13th.
