Barragan replaces Rolfo at Pedercini

Santiago Barragan will make his World Superbike Championship debut with Pedercini Kawasaki in place of Roberto Rolfo.
Pedercini Kawasaki has confirmed Santiago Barragan is to replace the injured Roberto Rolfo for the final round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship at Portimao.

Barragan has enjoyed notable success aboard a Kawasaki in Europe recently, winning the 2010 European Superstock 1000 championship, while he is currently second in his native Spanish Stock Extreme championship.

He will be stepping up to Superbike level at Portimao this weekend, however, after being signed by Pedercini Kawasaki as the substitute for Rolfo, who broke his knee in a recent training accident.

Set to be the first time he has tried the Kawasaki ZX-10R Superbike, Barragan is excited by the opportunity to compete on the international stage.

“I'm very happy to have the opportunity to ride in the Superbike category. I'm obviously sorry for Roberto but I'm sure he'll be back soon. I'm familiar with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superstock machine because I'm riding it in the CEV Extreme championship but I have never ridden a Superbike and so I think I'll need some time to find the right feeling with the bike.

“I know the team's technical staff is very professional and I'm sure they'll help me adapt as quickly as possible. I want to enjoy myself and take this opportunity to do my best for the Pedercini team and for my supporters.”

Barragan competed in the 2008 World Supersport Championship and the 2009 FIM Superstock series, ending the latter season in 17th position overall.

It's interesting how the Spanish riders getting influence in SBK, like the did in GPs. Last time Fores arrived, now Barragan. Of course I hope he will do the best what he can.
