Rea keen to turn pole into strong results

The Ulsterman failed to finish either race in France, but is confident he can make amends in the Portuguese finale.
Jonathan Rea says he is focused on turning his second consecutive World Superbike pole position into good results after smashing the lap record on the way to the top spot at Portimao.

The Ulsterman rider confirmed his and Castrol Honda's exceptional late season form, one that saw him win at Imola and claim pole position at Magny-Cours, by repeating the qualifying feat at Portimao, Rea's lap of 1min 41.712secs slicing three tenths off the lap record.

However, having seen his Saturday joy turn to Sunday despair at Magny-Cours when he failed to finish either encounter, Rea is aware that it is his race performances that ultimately count.

“To be honest, I'd much rather swap this pole position and the one at Magny-Cours for two good results tomorrow, but I'm still very happy with today. I'm enjoying riding the bike so much right now and go out with a smile on my face in every session.

“We had quite a different strategy with tyres today but it looks like being quite a difficult race with the temperatures here and we think the race will probably start around lap ten. For now though, we'll just savour the moment and I'll try my best tomorrow, which is another day after all.”
