Effenbert Liberty has announced it will increase its involvement in the 2012 World Superbike Championship with the signing of Maxime Berger alongside Sylvain Guintoli and Jakub Smrz.
The Czech-based team made a significant impression during its first season of WSBK racing, with Guintoli and Smrz scoring six podiums between them, prompting Effenbert Liberty to retain the pair.
However, for next season, Effenbert Liberty will reaffirm its commitment to the series by entering a third machine for Berger, who joins after a solid maiden Superbike campaign racing with Supersonic Ducati, during which he managed a best finish of seventh at the Portimao season finale.
Having tested with the team during the post-season tests in Portugal, Berger – who originally penned a two year deal with Supersonic before its decision to withdraw from the series – was delighted to join a front-running team for 2012.
“I am honoured by the confidence that the Effenbert Liberty Racing Team has given welcoming me within their highly professional structure. I know I can count on the whole team, with whom I had the pleasure of participating in a private test on the Tuesday following the races in Portimao.
“I appreciate the welcome that they reserved me and I am very proud to have the possibility to honour the team's colours in 2012. They can count on my professionalism, my motivation and the desire to honour my commitment to carry the colours as high as possible.
“My second season on a Ducati Superbike will be for me the opportunity to fully take advantage of the bike qualities and I have no doubts that the work that we will be undertaking will soon bring its results.”
As well as confirming Berger, Effenbert Liberty hinted that signing the Frenchman is the 'first piece' of its expansion, suggesting it could enter a fourth machine in 2012.
