Pedercini Kawasaki test Mercado on Superbike

Pedercini Kawasaki hints at a possible new rider for the 2012 World Superbike Championship by giving its Superstock rider Leandro Mercado a test on the ZX-10R.
Leandro 'Tati' Mercado has lined himself up for a possible move to the World Superbike Championship in 2012 after testing with Pedercini Kawasaki at Valencia.

Mercado competed with the Italian team in the 2011 FIM Superstock 1000 series, the Argentine finishing 15th overall with a best result of fifth coming at Silverstone.

Getting his first outing aboard the Kawasaki ZX-10R Superbike around the Spanish circuit, though Pedercini is one of the few teams just to confirm any riders for the 2012 season, Mercado hints he will be riding the bike again ahead of the new season.

“These two day of testing for me were very positive and as a first test, I think it went very well. I really enjoyed riding the bike as this was my first real experience of a superbike. My Kawasaki is powerful and fantastic to ride. Every time I entered into the circuit I improved my riding style to better suit the bike.

“Of course we have now a lot of areas to improve with the overall bike set up and with my riding style, but I think these two days here in Valencia have taught me a lot. I enjoy working with my team and I look forward to test again next year, before the beginning of the Championship.”

Armed with the new generation ZX-10R, Pedercini enjoyed its best season as a satellite Kawasaki team in 2011, with Mark Aitchison qualifying for Superpole on a handful of occasions and cracking the top ten twice, while Roberto Rolfo was its highest-scorer in 18th overall.

@gearbox, Can u take the pain to explain how Pedercini has good riders? it always had the worst riders of the field. Where does Mercado stand in front of Jonathan Rea for example.. Even in STK hes 15th and we have WSBK front runners and motogp top riders like Melandri n Aoyama.. Even if Pedercini develops the bike alot its of no use if the riders the below par of the field
