Team Grillini is set to return to the World Superbike Championship in 2012 after agreeing terms with Mark Aitchison to ride a privateer BMW this season.

The Italian outfit made a brief foray into WSBK in 2008, preparing a Yamaha for Loic Napoleone (later Christian Zaiser), before returning to domestic competition soon afterwards.

Recently, however, Grillini signalled intentions of an international comeback, making a surprise appearance during the post-season MotoGP tests at Valencia with their own BMW-engined CRT effort, though its dreams of entering the premier class were scuppered when it didn't receive a formal entry for 2012.

Nonetheless, according to, Grillini will instead land in World Superbikes, entering a BMW S1000RR for Aitchison, who will embark on his second season of WSBK competition following an eye-opening debut year aboard the unfancied Pedercini Kawasaki.

Despite a lack of Superbike experience, the Australian mostly out-performed team-mate Roberto Rolfo, cracking the top ten twice with a best of ninth place at Imola. are reporting that the Grillini BMW team will be sponsored by clothes company Sweet Years.
