PICS: Davies hits Guintoli bike

Chaz Davies taken out by Sylvain Guintoli's fallen Ducati in race one at Imola on Sunday.
Reigning World Supersport champion Chaz Davies made his delayed World Superbike race debut at Imola on Sunday - only to suffer this dramatic accident on lap two of the opening race (see below for the full sequence).

Sidelined from the Phillip Island season-opener by a fractured wrist, the ParkinGO Aprilia rider returned to qualify 17th out of the 25 riders at Imola - but was already up to tenth when he found Guintoli's bike blocking his path.

“After a great start I was taken out by Guintoli's bike,” said Chaz.

Although fortunately uninjured, the Welshman's RSV4 required significant repairs which were competed just minutes before race two, where the former grand prix rider crossed the line a disappointed 14th.

“I have to congratulate the team for rebuilding my bike on time,” said Davies. “Halfway through the race I suffered chattering on the rear tyre and I am obviously not satisfied with the result, even though I got two points on the first race I have finished in Superbike.”

Davies suffered an engine failure while leading comfortably in last September's Imola WSS race, delaying his title celebrations.

Md Zane, it can often help to watch a race with live timing up as it picks things up a lot quicker than the commentators do... Having said that, the commentary this weekend, I have to say, was particularly poor. I really like Burnicle and Whitham, but they were really off the boil this weekend (even if their brief argument was fairly amusing)... I mean, why not look at the timing screens for your answer about Davies, rather than just assume it was Hopkins that fell for the entire race and bemoan the organisers for getting it 'wrong'. Bikes can look familiar at speed and upside down, but it was pretty embarrassing to assume they were right for the entirety of the race and say it was Hopkins that crashed when they could clearly see him on the circuit. They also got a lot of info/bikes/riders wrong in the WSS race, I noticed.

OMG was Whitham and Burnical the dumbest of all sounding off the whole race how Hopper had fallen off and tell us fans how could he possible be running in the points and for us not to believe his position he was running in and then saying how Chaz had not been classified. Hopper 21 Davies 19 They both should join the BBC MotoGP nit wits.
