Haslam targeting wins from 14th

Leon Haslam shrugs off his lowly grid position by declaring he can challenge for victory at Monza from 14th.
Leon Haslam believes he has the pace to win BMW's first World Superbike Championship race at Monza, despite qualifying down in 14th position after a Superpole error.

BMW has been the form team in the dry so far this weekend, but the changeable conditions of Superpole would see Haslam, together with BMW Italia counterparts Ayrton Badovini and Michel Fabrizio, get caught out.

Indeed, with the wet weather tyre lasting just a single lap before noticeably fading, an error by Haslam on his first flying lap would define his afternoon as he couldn't improve upon a spot on the fourth row.

Nonetheless, 2010 runner-up feels the S1000RR is still quick enough to climb through the field from its lowly position and challenge for victory, albeit only if it is completely dry or completely wet.

“Obviously I am really disappointed. In the in-between conditions, the rain tyre was only lasting one lap for most riders. Unfortunately I made a mistake on the first lap and from that point onwards it was impossible to do a proper lap time, although I tried to push.

“We have a good set-up for our RR, I am feeling good, so that was just frustrating. Anyway, I think we can win tomorrow, wet or dry. If it is in between, we need to work on making the tyre last, that is the only thing. But I think it is the same for everyone.”
