Liberty at Donington Park, but no Effenbert?

Following its remarkable lambasting of World Superbike organisers at Monza in which it raised questions about its future participation, Liberty Racing has confirmed it will be present at this weekend's Donington Park event, but it could do so without the backing of title sponsor Effenbert.

Hours after a truncated race day at Monza in which only half of one race was completed due to inclement weather conditions, the Czech-based team released a damning statement criticising the Race Direction and WSBK organisers (CLICK HERE) for their handling of the situation and for being too readily influenced by a handful of riders.

Feeling as though it didn't receive the respect it deserved in the decision-making processes and going on to state that it will be considering its future participation in the series, Liberty Racing has released an updated statement confirming its three riders and their technical staff will be present at Donington Park.

“The Liberty Racing Team would like to communicate that its own riders Sylvain Guintoli, Jakub Smrž and Maxime Berger supported by their technical staff, will take part in the Europe GP, 5th round of the Superbike World Championship, that will be held at Donington Park this weekend.”

Crucially, however, there is no mention of its key sponsor Effenbert, the Czech alcohol company rumoured to be considering pulling its backing in the wake of Monza, a rumour that is given credence by the fact it will likely have a diminished presence at Donington Park.

Putting the participation of Liberty Racing in doubt beyond Donington Park, any withdrawal would be seen as a particularly substantial blow to the series given the team's substantial presence and large rider line-up.

Effenbert Liberty Racing, which made its debut in 2011, currently enters Ducatis for Sylvain Guintoli, Jakub Smrz, Maxime Berger and Brett McCormick, though the latter is currently sidelined through injury.
