Carlos Checa aims to make up title ground in USA

'At Donington we lost ground in the classification and so definitely need a strong weekend now' - Carlos Checa
Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa is targeting a strong weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA after losing ground in the championship standings at Donington.

The current World Superbike champion boasts an impressive record at the American circuit near Salt Lake City in Utah, where he has notched two double victories and a second place finish over the last four years.

Checa finished sixth in the first race at Donington before crashing out of race two, handing the title initiative to key rival Max Biaggi.

However, traditionally a rewarding venue for Checa, the Spaniard is confident he can reclaim some lost ground at Miller on Monday.

“I have always enjoyed the atmosphere at Miller, the people, the mountains, the layout of the track itself,” Checa said.

“The track suits my riding style and I have many great memories thanks to the results I've obtained there these last years.

“At Donington we lost ground in the classification and so definitely need a strong weekend now.”

Checa is currently in fourth place in the series after five rounds, 13 points behind Biaggi.

I, as always, would LOVE for Sykes to win and get the double. BUT, this is Carlos' track. He has 2 double wins and a second in 4 appearances (That would've been 3 double wins, had it not been for a double bike failure while in the lead in both races in 2010). He's simply brilliant here. But I AM SCREAMING TEAM GREEN ALL THE WAY!!! GO TOM!!!!

@ there there now I don't think there's any doubt I'm a Kwikasfukki fan! :D My first bike was a green (silver) meanie and I've loved the brand for years. Then this Sykes guy started riding for them and making things happen, and one couldn't help but notice how humble he is. It's a nice teaming and I am happy the support of Kawasaki's (and Tom's) fans has paid off. And I hope you're right. Last year we saw Tom have a great battle with Rea. And this year they are just SOOOO much stronger. GO TEAM GREEN!
