Ayrton Badovini says his first-ever World Superbike front row start at Misano has come at a crucial time for both himself and the BMW Italia team following a difficult start to the 2012 season.
The Italian rider was one of the 2011 revelations on the way to tenth position in overall standings, but has only managed indifferent results aboard the satellite S1000RR this year.
Currently 14th in the overall standings, Badovini was in fine form around his home circuit of Misano, scene of his best-ever WSBK result last season when he finished just off the podium in fourth position.
Also the first-time the BMW Italia team has secured a spot on the front row, Badovini is feeling confident having previously overcome poor qualifying positions with superior race pace.
“I'm very happy because these are very difficult moments for me and my team. The result is very important because we want to work more to win the race. We have been good in the races, but not very fast in the single lap and so far this season third place in Superpole has been impossible.”
