Eugene Laverty has slipped 115.5 points behind his World Superbike Championship leading team-mate Max Biaggi in the overall standings after managing just a single seventh place finish at Misano.

The Irishman came into the races with high hopes after qualifying a season's best seventh, but struggled to mount a podium challenge in either race.

Finishing where he started in race one, Laverty was heading for a similar result in race two when he crashed out with five laps to go, completing a disappointing day for the Aprilia rider.

"It was a very bad day at the office. I finished a lowly seventh in race one and then crashed out of race two. We chose the wrong front tyre and it didn't offer enough grip in the higher temperature. We have a test coming up in Aragon so we'll work hard to get back on the pace of the front guys."
