Melandri picks up where he left off at Aragon

Marco Melandri fastest in morning session during World Superbike tyre test at Aragon
Factory BMW rider Marco Melandri picked up where he left off during this morning's World Superbike test at Motorland Aragon in Spain.

Melandri, who won the second race from Eugene Laverty on Sunday, topped the times from fellow BMW rider Ayrton Badovini on the Goldbet Italia S1000RR by 0.345s.

Aprilia star Laverty was third quickest on his RSV4, 0.7s off the pace of Melandri, with Kawasaki Tom Sykes, Laverty's team-mate and Aragon race one winner Biaggi and Leon Haslam on the second works BMW rounding out the leading six.

Honda's Jonathan Rea was seventh ahead of Althea Ducati pair Davide Giugliano and Carlos Checa, who was a second adrift of the fastest time.

This morning's test offered riders the chance to test the new 17-inch wheels that will be introduced to the World Superbike series in 2013.

No fewer than 19 riders this morning, although not all have yet tried out Pirelli's new 17” Diablo tyres.

GPOne is reporting that Badovini, Loris Baz, Biaggi, Rea, Giugliano, Haslam and Leon Camier have sampled the 17" wheels.

The Effenbert Liberty Ducati and Red Devils teams are absent from the test, with Niccolo Canepa and Jakub Smrz skipping the event.

Smrz is recovering following his crash on Sunday in race one.

World Supersport rider Imre Toth completed four laps on the Grillini BMW this morning.

The test will continue this afternoon.
