Chaz Davies has closed the gap to Davide Giugliano in the fight for top rookie status in this year's World Superbike Championship, despite feeling as though he didn't maximise his potential at Brno.
Fresh from his impressive podium finish at Motorland Aragon, ParkinGO MTC Aprilia rider Davies arrived at Brno seeking similar results, but struggled to make an impression in the tricky conditions of race one as he crossed the line in 11th place.
Faring far better in race two, Davies became embroiled in the busy chasing pack, battling his way to sixth position for a decent haul of points that places him just six points adrift of reigning Superstock 1000 champion Giugliano in the overall standings.
Despite this, Davies concedes he was slightly disappointed at not being able to replicate the form that had him on the rostrum in Spain.
“It was not a bad day but I can't really say it has been great either. I had podium pace but the strange weather conditions gave me a few problems. I have learnt a couple of interesting things about the bike that will help me and will give me an advantage in the future.
“In the second race I felt more confident thanks to the dry conditions of the track. The performance of the race wasn't great as I was missing some settings, due to lacking 45 minutes on Saturday. At the end sixth position is not bad at all, perhaps not what I was expecting, but I am quite satisfied of the job done this weekend.”
