Biaggi refocuses after ‘bitter’ Brno blow

2 August 2012

Max Biaggi is keen to restore the damage to his World Superbike Championship advantage at Silverstone following a disappointing weekend last time out at Brno.

For the first time in seven events, Biaggi saw his series lead slashed by double winner Marco Melandri, the BMW rider reducing his countryman's advantage to 21 points with five events still remaining.

Indeed, with Brno failing to live up to Biaggi's lofty expectations, he is now hoping to recover lost ground on his arch rival on British soil instead, even if Silverstone is not a circuit he has enjoyed great fortune at in the past.

“Brno left a bitter taste in my mouth, I won't deny that,” he said. “A track which has historically been friendly played a dirty trick on us, but we have to turn the page now. We have been working hard to fix the problems that slowed us down, but until the first test session we won't have a clear idea of our situation.

“There are a lot of variables at Silverstone, from the weather to the home riders. We'll have to stay focused on our goal and adapt quickly to the situation. It is a hard championship which will probably be decided in the last round. I want to be in it until the end.”

Since Silverstone returned to the WSBK calendar in 2010, Biaggi has managed a score sheet of 5th-6th-11th-4th place results.
