Giugliano pole hopes scuppered by tumble

Davide Giugliano suffers a costly tumble during Superpole at the Moscow Raceway to leave him on the outside of the second row.
Davide Giugliano will start a frustrated eighth at the Moscow Raceway after an SP3 crash prevents him from replicating his impressive pre-Superpole pace.

The Italian has been in strong form around the new Russian circuit so far this weekend and was considered the favourite for pole position alongside his Althea Ducati team-mate Carlos Checa.

However, while he cruised through to the final phase of Superpole with few problems, Giugliano would take a tumble at turn three at the start of his first flying lap of SP3. Damaging the bike, though Giugliano made it back to the pit lane, he wouldn't get out to set a time that would lift him higher than eighth place.

Disappointed at not being able to capitalise on his pace, Giugliano is nonetheless hopeful he can make up the ground once racing gets underway.

“Unfortunately we didn't have the third Superpole phase that we'd hoped for. In the second phase I went out on a qualifier and I think this conditioned the final phase as I went out on the same tyre but it didn't behave in the same way and I crashed.

“After a weekend in which we have been up front in each session, I'm disappointed to be starting eighth tomorrow; it's not a bad position but we thought we could do more today. We had everything lined up and the front row was in our sights… Anyway tomorrow we'll go racing and I hope that I regain what I lost in the final Superpole session.”
