Front row start boosts Laverty's podium chances

'The top three riders in the championship standings are ahead of me, so that makes the result even more impressive' - Eugene Laverty
Eugene Laverty couldn't hide his satisfaction after he secured a front row start on the Aprilia RSV4 ahead of tomorrow's World Superbike meeting at the Nurburgring in Germany.

Laverty had set himself a target of rounding off the season by finishing on the podium earlier in the week and has given himself an excellent chance of doing just that this weekend.

The Northern Irishman qualified in fourth place behind team-mate Max Biaggi, Kawasaki's Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri on the works BMW.

Laverty said: “We made excellent progress yesterday and today. I knew I had a shot at the front row with the pace we had been building session after session.

“The top three riders in the championship standings are ahead of me, so that makes the result even more impressive.

“Tomorrow I expect to be competitive. Starting from the front row is always a good calling card.”

A thrilling race is in store, with less than half a second covering the top six.
