Baz ends breakthrough season on home soil

Loris Baz is eyeing a strong end to his part-season campaign with Kawasaki ahead of a full year with the manufacturer in 2013.
Fresh from the announcement that he will get a full season with Kawasaki in 2013, Loris Baz is confident he can bring his breakthrough year to a satisfying close around his home circuit of Magny-Cours.

The youngster has emerged as a popular revelation since being signed as the long-term replacement for Joan Lascorz in the team, his shock victory in the wet at Silverstone earning him status as a potential future star of the sport.

As such, Kawasaki has already moved to secure Baz's services for 2013, where he will form an unchanged line-up with Tom Sykes, a big boost for the Frenchman ahead of his home event at Magny-Cours this weekend.

Having come a long way from starting the season in the Superstock 1000 Championship, Baz is now eyeing a top five finish around one of his favourite venues.

“Racing in France in front of the French fans is always very cool. But on track we will be trying to do the same as at every round. I hope to score a top five in the dry and if it is dry it will be better for us. I like Magny-Cours, it is a very nice track, and I did the Bol D'Or there. I won the Superstock 600 Championship there and I have some good memories, so I hope to have another good memory.

“I just want to find a good set-up on Friday, work towards the race. We were not so far from the top five in Portimao so we are getting there. A few races ago a top seven in the dry was a little dream, but now we have done that two times.”

Go Loris! This kid is a future champ for sure... Kawasaki made a great move signing him for 2013. I am against team orders, but I hope he doesn't beat Tom, and I hope he he manages to put a gap between Tom and Max and Marco... Can't wait to see how these two start in PI next year!!!

I'm really surprised that Kawa signed a young rider like Loris and not an old MotoGP/SBK star. But it is nice for him, deserves a factory ride for sure. Sure he can do something great in Magny-Cours, he knows the track eyes closed (french translation!)
