Sylvain Guintoli further increased his chances of taking over Max Biaggi's vacant factory Aprilia World Superbike ride by being the quickest RSV4 rider on day two of testing at Jerez.
The race-winning Frenchman, whose place is yet to be confirmed despite attending the test, set a best lap of 1m 41.283s, putting him 0.479s ahead of 'team-mate' Eugene Laverty.
Although listed as fastest, Guintoli is believed to have been slightly slower than Tom Sykes, who - like Kawasaki team-mate Loris Baz - is not carrying a timing transponder.
Ten Kate Honda riders Leon Haslam (1m 42.039s) and Jonathan Rea (1m 42.108s) were third and fourth on the timesheets, followed by new Aprilia rider Michele Fabrizio (1m 42.114s) and factory test rider Alex Hofmann (1m 43.028s).
BMW and Ducati are due to join the test on Wednesday, plus the Ducati and Avintia MotoGP teams.
