Camier focuses on tyres during opening day of test

'I'll have the new-spec 2013 engine, so I am looking forward to that - if the track feeling is as good as the dyno data it will be a good step' - Leon Camier
Leon Camier spent the opening day of a two-day shakedown at Almeria in Spain focusing testing a hard tyre compound on his Fixi Crescent Suzuki.

It was the first time Camier and new signing Jules Cluzel were out on track following the conclusion of the winter testing ban.

And the pair made of the most of the dry but breezy conditions, clocking up countless laps.

Both riders will also have the chance to test the new-spec Yoshimura-powered GSX-R1000 engine and updated electronics at Almeria today.

Camier said: “It has been a good day and we got through a lot of work and checked most things out - which is the major part of these shakedown tests.

“I used the hard tyres for most of the day, as we weren't trying for fast times, but just making sure that everything on the bike was where I remembered it should be!

“We still have a lot to do tomorrow and will continue in the same way as we have today,” added the British rider.

“I'll have the new-spec 2013 engine to use tomorrow, so I am looking forward to that - if the track feeling is as good as the dyno data it will be a good step.”

The Fixi Crescent Suzuki team will travel to Jerez for a second test next week, linking up with several other World Superbike teams.

I hope Leon's right up there as well :p More seriously, Camier's a widely under rated rider these days. Give him fully competitive kit and there are going to be a lot of shocked faces in the WSB paddock. Meanwhile I'll be grinning from ear to ear.
