Rain hampers start of Ducati test

Rainy weather hampers the first two days of World Superbike testing for Alstare Ducati at Jerez, with just one day remaining before it heads out to Australia for the opening round.
Inclement weather is continuing to give the World Superbike Championship teams grief ahead of the opening round of the season after Alstare Ducati had two of their three-day outing at Jerez hampered by rain.

With the WSBK testing ban coming to an end earlier this month, the teams have begun to embark on their preparations for the 2013 season, which gets underway in just over a month's time at Phillip Island in Australia.

However, with Kawasaki and Suzuki losing time at Almeria last week because of high winds, Alstare Ducati has now been faced with rain further west in Jerez.

Though a day of testing remains today [Monday], the fact Alstare riders Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini have only completed a handful of laps between them over two days means the team has plenty of catching up to do before it flies out to Australia.

Indeed, the weather woes are a particular blow to Alstare, which is making a return to World Superbikes in 2013, as it looks to get the new Ducati 1199 Panigale up to speed before it makes its much anticipated WSBK competition debut.

During post-season testing at Jerez in November, lead Ducati rider Checa was around 1.7secs slower than pace setter Eugene Laverty on the Aprilia.

Jerez will be the venue of choice for several other teams this week, with Kawasaki, Aprilia, Honda, BMW and Suzuki set to attend.
