Giugliano brimming with confidence

'I'm happy that I was able to record some fast lap times but more importantly I have quickly understood the character of this bike' - Davide Giugliano
Althea Aprilia's Davide Giugliano says he 'couldn't have made a better start' to his preparations for the World Superbike Championship following a positive test at Jerez.

Giugliano was fastest in the wet conditions at the Spanish circuit on Monday and second quickest behind Marco Melandri on a dry track on Tuesday as he made a flying start on the RSV4.

His best lap of 1m 40.861s was 0.104s behind the BMW of Melandri and Giugliano feels he has gelled with the Aprilia from the off.

“I'm pleased with how testing has gone here in Jerez.

“I hadn't been on a bike in months and couldn't wait to get on track with my RSV4,” he said.

“I immediately found good feeling, both yesterday in the wet and today in the dry.

“I'm happy that I was able to record some fast lap times but more importantly I have quickly understood the character of this bike,” he added.

“We still have a lot of work to do of course and it will take time to ride the RSV4 to its full potential but I don't think we could have made a better start, and for that I thank the entire team for all of their hard work.”

Althea Racing switched to factory Aprilia machinery for 2013 following a successful association with Ducati that saw Carlos Checa lift the world title in 2011.

Checa finished fourth in the championship last year on the outdated 1098 Ducati and it came as a surprise that Althea and Ducati were unable to reach an agreement to run the new Panigale 1199R.

Ducati, with Checa and Ayrton Badovini, has joined forces with Alstare Racing.

Althea's Genesio Bevilacqua said Giugliano's performance at Jerez “exceeded expectations”.

“We are very pleased as we leave Jerez, the results here have exceeded our expectations.

“Davide immediately found the right feeling with the RSV4, so much so that he registered the fastest time yesterday and the second fastest today [Tuesday].

“I think that we have rediscovered that spirit and desire to stand out that allowed us to achieve great results in the past.”

Can't wait for Philip Island. I just love the fact that all these new Aprilia riders have jelled with their bikes so quickly. I simply love the underdog even though I know it is a full factory supported effect. I can't stand BMW with their open cheque book policy of buying riders support staff & anyone they think worthy from the previous years winners...Ducati...Suzuki...Aprilia as well as manipulating the governing body to allow their illegal engine with excessive oversquare dimensions to be accepted. God I hate BMW. Go Giugliano
