Chaz Davies has set his sights on cracking the top five overall in his first season as a factory BMW rider, the Welshman keen to progress from an encouraging maiden season in the World Superbike Championship.
Davies finished ninth overall and picked up a maiden win at the Nurburgring during a successful first year of WSBK racing in 2012, a performance that has earned him a 'big step' into the works-backed BMW GoldBet team for 2013.
Indeed, the former World Supersport Champion has taken great pleasure from being involved in a full factory project and is keen to reward the manufacturer with a run to the top five in 2013.
“This is a big step for me, as it is the first time I have been directly involved in a works project. That means an awful lot to me,” he said. “I am very proud, as it is not just any works team, but BMW – a powerful brand. I want to take full advantage of this opportunity. My goal is to continue improving, become more consistent, and end the season in the top five.”
Davies replaces countryman Pata Honda-bound Leon Haslam in the factory BMW team.
