Melandri on course for full fitness return

Marco Melandri is confident he will be back at full fitness when the World Superbike Championship resumes at Aragon in four weeks' time.
Marco Melandri says his recovery from recent shoulder surgery is progressing well as he works his way towards a return to competition at Motorland Aragon.

The Italian took advantage of the six-week gap between the Phillip Island season opener and the next event in Spain to go under the knife to correct a shoulder injury that had persisted over the winter period.

Having now returned to training, BMW GoldBet Motorrad rider Melandri is confident he is on course to be back to full fitness when the WSBK season resumes on April 12-14th.

“My recovery is proceeding well and according to plan. I am training in the pool and – carefully – in the gym. Overall, I am satisfied. Some movements that caused pain before the surgery are no longer a problem. I still have some bone pain, but that is normal after the operation. Now I have to work on fully recovering the joint and the muscle tone.

“I had an ultrasound examination and a visit to Dr. Porcellini, and he was positive as well. Unfortunately I could not join the team for the tests but we are regularly in touch so I was constantly updated on how the tests proceeded and which solutions they were finding.”

Despite shoulder pair, Melandri picked up a third place finish and a DNF at the Phillip Island opener.
