Sykes fastest on day one of Aragon test

Tom Sykes lays down the benchmark at Motorland Aragon as he out-paces his Suzuki and Honda rivals in Spain.
Tom Sykes gave a clear indication that the injury that hampered him during the opening round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship is fully healed after comfortably topping the timesheets in testing at Motorland Aragon.

The Kawasaki rider has taken full advantage of the seven-week break between the first and second rounds to recover from the wrist and rib injuries he sustained in a pre-season accident at Phillip Island.

Returning to action at this week's private test, which also includes Pata Honda, Fixi Crescent Suzuki and Pedercini Kawasaki, Sykes immediately showed his form by setting a time of 1min 58.6secs, just over two seconds off his pole position winning time of 2012.

That was enough to put him three tenths up on Fixi Crescent Suzuki's Leon Camier, who in turn was a clear seventh tenths faster than Jonathan Rea in third position on the Pata Honda.

Loris Baz was the last of those to break the 2min marker in fourth place, ahead of Leon Haslam, who continued to struggle with the electronics woes that have hampered Pata Honda in the run up to this year's season.

Making his Superbike debut at Aragon, Jules Cluzel was seventh quickest, just behind Ducati test rider Matteo Baiocco, but ahead of Pedercini Kawasaki pair Federico Sandi and Alexander Lundh.
