A year on from securing his first World Superbike Championship podium by overtaking his title-winning team-mate Carlos Checa
at the final corner, Davide Giugliano returns to Assen looking for a repeat of that strong performance.
An impressive result for the young Italian, competing in only his third WSBK event at the time, Giugliano has subsequently gone on to become a regular front runner since that race, a status reflected last time out at Motorland Aragon by tussling for the podium in only his second round with the Althea-prepared Aprilia RSV4.
With increasing confidence on the RSV4, Giugliano is aiming high at Assen this year and is keen to score his first rostrum of the season having come close in Spain.
“I really like the Assen track because it was here, last year, that I took my first ever Superbike podium, when I finished second behind Guintoli and in front of Checa, in a difficult race that we ran in the wet.
“The weather in Assen is often uncertain and conditions the racing, but come rain or shine on Sunday we're ready and determined to take good results. I am feeling more and more at ease on the Aprilia RSV4 and will do my best to make the team, sponsors and all of our fans happy.”
