Aprilia's Eugene Laverty says his 'unexpected' victory at Assen has left him full of confidence ahead of the fourth round of the World Superbike Championship at Monza in Italy this weekend.
Laverty claimed his maiden WSBK victories with a stunning double for Yamaha at Monza in 2011 and can expect to be challenging for top honours again at the super-fast Italian circuit, where the outright speed of the RSV4 will give the Northern Ireland rider an excellent chance.
“It was important to bounce back with a race victory in Assen,” said Laverty, who is tied for second place in the standings behind team-mate Sylvain Guintoli.
“Honestly I didn't expect to win, which gives me a lot of confidence going into one of our strongest circuits on the calendar.
“Top speed is very important at Monza and the RSV4 has plenty of that.
“Let's hope the weather stays dry and that we can enjoy two great races on Sunday.”
Monza is a special venue for Aprilia and the Italian fans and both Laverty and championship leader Guintoli will be aiming for the top step this weekend.
