World Superbike Championship leader Sylvain Guintoli will start on the front row of the grid for the first time this season after snatching third position at Monza.

The Frenchman has been the model of consistency since the beginning of the year, picking up one win and four further podiums in six races, results that have seen him pull out a significant advantage in the overall standings.

Ahead of the fourth round at Monza, Guintoli was able to go beneath the previous lap record for third on the grid, where he will join Tom Sykes and Aprilia team-mate Eugene Laverty in starting from the front.

"Especially since it looks like there are several riders who can definitely make a play for the win, so I expect two heated races. Tomorrow we are looking forward to having some fun, giving the fans a good show and leaving Monza with some rich spoils."
