WSBK Monza: Delighted Melandri savours home success

“In the middle of race two I was a little bit faster than the two guys in front of me, but I could not try to pass. But when Sylvain made a little mistake, I overtook him and then tried to catch Eugene, but he was a bit too far away.

“Anyway, I was also very happy with second place. Now I am confident because I feel that the feeling with the bike is coming back. I can brake and go into corners aggressively, it is my riding style. I am sure that from now on we can fight with the top guys at every race.

“Thanks a lot to my team because they are working so hard and I am sure our championship will start now. And I also want to say 'Grazie' to the many fans who came here today. It was just awesome to see the grandstands.“

Championship-wise I dont think its been closer between so many riders. I dont think Marco has the mental toughness win the championship and will bin it when it counts. Chaz will be a dark who will keep building as the season progresses. Sykes will just keep doin the business along with guinters, Laverty while inconsistent at times has shown hes not scared to go for the win and is faster than his team-mate and Johnny Rea will keep riding the wheels off of that 2008 model honda and spoil the party at times. Gotta love WSBK I have no idea whatll happen in the next races other than Sykes for pole and better racing than GP.

Maybe the second half of this season will be more kind to him than the later part of last season. Sykes+Eugene+Marco have to be the primary title favorites this year. Guintoli looks promising but hes missing that last 10%. Should be interesting to see if he can get it before the end of the season.
