Niccolo Canepa has secured a wildcard entry for round five of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park, when the Italian will ride for Alstare Ducati.
Canepa, currently leading the FIM Superstock 1000 series with Barni Racing, has reached agreement with Alstare Racing to join Carlos Checa
and Ayrton Badovini at the English circuit this weekend.
The Superstock machines do not compete at Donington, giving Canepa the opportunity to ride the Ducati Panigale 1199R.
He joined Badovini at a test session at Mugello in Italy to test the machine prior to his wildcard ride this weekend.
“I enjoyed testing at Mugello and got on very well with the bike and so I'm really pleased to have this opportunity to ride the 1199 Panigale with Team Ducati Alstare at Donington,” he said.
“I want to thank Francis Batta of Ducati Alstare, Ernesto Marinelli and Ducati and of course my own team, Barni Racing and manager Marco Barnabò for coming together and arranging this.
“I hope to be able to pay them back by scoring some solid results during these important races.”
Canepa also competed at Donington last year, finishing with a best of 11th position.
