World Superbike Championship leader Sylvain Guintoli says he is pleased to be starting from the front row of the grid at Donington Park as he looks to break Aprilia's duck around the British circuit.

The Frenchman was in strong form during Superpole, getting beneath the previous lap record, even if he would still fall four tenths shy of toppling a flying Tom Sykes on the Kawasaki.

Even so, given the Aprilia RSV4's somewhat indifferent record around Donington Park, Guintoli's second place - coupled to Eugene Laverty rounding out the front row in third - gives the Frenchman confidence he can challenge for victory come race day.

"I pushed hard out there in the last Superpole session. I had a good feeling and I knew I could do well. Unfortunately in my fast lap I made a few small mistakes in the last two sectors which cost me a few tenths of a second, but I think even with a perfect lap it would have been very difficult to take the pole from Sykes the specialist.

"Starting from the front row is important, especially here, and it's good to see that the Aprilia is fast even on a small track like Donington."
