WSBK Imola: Front row Giugliano flies the flag on home soil

Althea Racing's Davide Giugliano out-performs the factory Aprilia riders as he secures a spot on the front row of the grid for the first time this season.
Davide Giugliano will start his home round of the World Superbike Championship from the front row for the first time this season after getting the better of his factory Aprilia counterparts in Superpole at Imola.

Determined to impress on home soil following a disappointing weekend last time out at Donington Park, Giugliano has shown consistently fast form throughout the Imola event, regularly out-pacing Sylvain Guintoli and Eugene Laverty on their manufacturer-backed RSV4s.

Continuing to impress during Superpole, Giugliano cruised into SP3 before comfortably securing a spot on the front row of the grid, a first for the Althea Racing team since it switched from Ducati to Aprilia machinery.

“It was a fantastic Superpole, the best I've had so far in my career,” he said. “I'm really happy because after a somewhat disappointing Portimao we have put our heads down, changed what needed to be changed and reacted with strength of character. My team provided me with a great bike while I'm able to ride smoothly and have fun with.

“I hope that tomorrow I can ride as I have done over the last two days. We certainly have good race pace also because my best time in Superpole was set on race rubber and so I'm feeling very confident ahead of the
