Tom Sykes continued to hold firm at the top of the World Superbike Championship timesheets after Q2 at the Moscow Raceway as damp conditions threw a curve ball into proceedings.
With drizzle preventing any rider from getting close to their lap time from Q1, the overall order of Sykes from Davide Giugliano, Marco Melandri and Carlos Checa
remains the same.
The damp session itself was topped by Melandri, lapping almost ten seconds off the ultimate pace, ahead of Giugliano – who suffered a fall at turn one -, Jules Cluzel, Leon Haslam and Chaz Davies.
However, there was concern for Checa after a crash from the Alstare Ducati necessitated a red flag period and a trip to the medical centre. Despite this, the Spaniard - who has suffered with persistent shoulder problems this season - was unharmed.
The poor conditions also means means Federico Sandi, Vittorio Iannuzzo and WSBK debutant Lorenzo Savadori were denied the chance to haul themselves into Superpole contention, the trio finishing outside the top 15 to be confirmed in 16th, 17th and 18th position on the grid respectively.
Title contender Sylvain Guintoli, meanwhile, did not venture on circuit to set a time as he looks to conserve his recently injured shoulder.
