Mark Aitchison will return to the World Superbike Championship and the Pedercini Kawasaki team for round nine of the season at Silverstone, it has been confirmed.

Aitchison made his WSBK debut with Pedercini in 2011, the Australian scoring some of the team's best ever results since its switch to Kawasaki machinery with top ten finishes at Assen and Imola.

Since then, Aitchison has ridden the Grillini BMW in WSBK and also dabbled in British Superbikes with a stint at PR Kawasaki and Splitlath Redmond Aprilia.

Last seen in WSBK riding the Effenbert Liberty Ducati 1098R earlier this year, Aitchison was left in the lurch following the Czech team's withdrawal after three races, but has now been called up to ride the Pedercini Kawasaki in place of the injured Alexander Lundh.

"I'm obviously very happy for the opportunity to once again part of the team Pedercini. I have many memories of the 2011 season that I spent with the Italian team and I am sure this weekend will add another chapter to our common history.

"I honestly do not know what to expect exactly. I have no experience with the bikes currently used by the team. I want to thank the Pedercini family for this great opportunity offered to me and I wish a speedy recovery to Alex Lundh. I'm looking forward to racing at Silverstone, a circuit that I really like, and to work with my new team."

Lundh, meanwhile, is still recovering from injuries sustained in an accident at Imola and was replaced by Pedercini's Superstock rider Lorenzo Savadori ;ast time out at the Moscow Raceway.
