This year will be different, vows Melandri

29 August 2013

Marco Melandri's World Superbike title aspirations were dealt a huge blow last year at the Nurburgring in Germany and the factory BMW rider is hoping for a much better outcome on Sunday.

Melandri had been leading the championship by 18.5 points from Max Biaggi in 2012 until two crashes saw his Italian rival move back to the top of the standings, with Biaggi going on to lift the WSBK crown for the second time.

Former MotoGP star Melandri is presently fourth in the series ahead of the tenth round this weekend on 221 points, five behind Eugene Laverty in third position and 41 points down on championship leader Sylvain Guintoli.

“I really like the Nurburgring. It is a fast and flowing track and, apart from the first corners, which are too tight, it fits very well with my riding style,” said GoldBet BMW star Melandri.

“Unfortunately I don't have good memories of last year's races, but this year will be different and the past doesn't count.

“I really enjoyed the break and it was very important to take some time off, to have some rest and to train for next weekend's races.”
