Sylvain Guintoli says he is disappointed at being unable to mount a challenge for victory in Istanbul Park as he admits he needs to make a 'step forward' if he is to win this year's title.

Guintoli has been the master of consistency this year, the Frenchman overcoming a shoulder injury to have scored in all but one race. However, having slipped behind Tom Sykes in the overall standings and with just one race win to his name this year, Guintoli says he needs to up his game if he is to remain involved.

Indeed, the Frenchman had expected to challenge for victory in Turkey after a strong showing in qualifying, but while he was always close to the front in both races, he could only manage a fourth and a third.

A disappointing set of results for Guintoli, who remains well in contention just eight points behind leader Sykes, he says he had expected more.

"Two strong races, but I'm still missing something," he said. "I'm not sure if it's speed or my physical condition. To be honest, I expected more from this weekend after the good practice sessions and the front row start. It wasn't a complete disaster thought since we're still close to Sykes and I got back onto the podium.

"Unfortunately my shoulder injury isn't a simple thing to overcome. On a track like this one with fast turns and cross wind, it hurt quite a bit. The next round will be at Laguna Seca which is a track I like and where I hope to make another step forward".
