Lanzi set for WSBK comeback at Magny-Cours, Jerez

30 September 2013

Lorenzo Lanzi has announced he is set to make a return to the World Superbike Championship at Magny-Cours and Jerez, with a view to returning to the series full-time in 2014.

A former race winner at World Superbike level, Lanzi has made sporadic appearances in the series over the last few seasons, most recently towards the end of the 2012 season when he lined up with the Effenbert Liberty Ducati team.

Though he has endured a quiet 2013 season, Lanzi has teamed up with Mesaroli Vittorino – with whom he worked during his time at Effenbert Liberty – to enter a Ducati 1098RS in the final two rounds of the year under the Mesaroli Racing banner.

The entry is being used as an evaluation to potentially launch a full campaign in 2014, when revised regulations and the inclusion of an EVO category is set to attract a larger number of private entrants and bolster grid numbers.

Following a two-day test at Mugello this week, Lanzi is excited about the prospect of returning to World Superbikes.

"They were two really nice days. We worked well on the development of the bike and the results have been very positive. But more than anything I liked the spirit of this team. We are all driven by the same passion and desire to do well and this is a very important factor.

β€œAt the end of the tests I tried to push hard for a few laps and even with used tyres the times were interesting, especially considering that we had little time to work on the bike and I'm not going down the track for a few months. Obviously there is still much work to do, but we'll do it with enthusiasm. I'm looking forward to racing at Magny Cours.”
