Melandri: There are still many points available

30 September 2013

Marco Melandri has vowed not to give up on his World Superbike Championship title hopes despite slipping 42 points adrift of leader Tom Sykes with just two rounds of the season remaining.

Having just missed out on the podium in race one when he was bumped down to fourth position on the final lap, Melandri enjoyed the opposite scenario in race two when he got the better of Tom Sykes with just a few corners remaining.

Lifting himself onto the rostrum, the result still leaves the Italian with much work to do at Magny-Cours and Jerez if he is to stay involved in the championship battle. Despite this, the BMW rider is determined to keep pushing.

"This was a quite positive day. It was not easy, even if I got the best result I could achieve. I want to thank my team; they did a very good job. Unfortunately during the first part of the races I struggled with the front, so I needed a long race to catch up with the guys in front of me.

“This was not possible yesterday as the race was not long enough. But in race two, I could push in the second half of the race and I got on the podium. There are still many points still available. It will not be easy, but I still want to win some more races."
