Davide Giugliano has assumed the advantage ahead of Superpole for the penultimate round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship as he claimed the quickest time in FP2 around a damp Magny-Cours.

The Italian staved off a late challenge from Ayrton Badovini on the Alstare Ducati to remain quickest around the slippery French circuit, albeit with a lap time some 18secs shy of the record.

Behind Badovini, the four title contenders would end the session line astern from third to sixth in the order of Sylvain Guintoli, Eugene Laverty, Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri.

Michele Pirro's impressive WSBK debut continued with the seventh best time on the Alstare Ducati, though he was one of three riders to suffer a crash, along with Fixi Crescent Suzuki riders Jules Cluzel and Vincent Philippe.

Chaz Davies, Philippe and Lorenzo Lanzi completed the top ten, the latter showing well on his return to the series aboard the Mesaroli Racing Ducati 1098R.
