Laverty: We still have an outside chance

16 October 2013

Eugene Laverty is hoping for a slice of luck at the final round of the World Superbike Championship at Jerez in Spain this weekend.

The Northern Irishman trails Kawasaki's Tom Sykes by 37 points with two races remaining and has set his sights on winning both races on Sunday to give the factory Aprilia rider the best possible chance should British star Sykes slip up.

Laverty has been in superb form in the second half of the season on the RSV4, claiming a double victory at Istanbul Park in Turkey followed by a stunning win at Laguna Seca.

He finished on the podium twice last time out at Magny-Cours, but Sykes claimed a brace to put himself firmly in the title driving seat.

“We still have an outside chance of the title going into the final round at Jerez. All I can do is try to win the races on Sunday and see what happens,” Laverty said.

“We've had a really good run of seven successful podiums and it would be great to finish the season on a high.”

Laverty is one point ahead of his team-mate, Sylvain Guintoli, in the championship standings ahead of the final round.
