World Superbike Championship leader Tom Sykes has signalled his intentions ahead of a potentially crucial Superpole at Jerez by setting the pace in FP2, despite a crash.

The Kawasaki rider, who has a 37 point lead in the standings with just two races remaining, was comfortably faster than his main Aprilia rivals in FP2 to give him a confidence boost coming into Superpole.

Spanish duo Toni Elias and Xavi Fores followed in third and fourth positions respectively, ahead of Aprilia trio Eugene Laverty, Sylvain Guintoli and Davide Giugliano, while Sylvain Barrier - another rider who failed to reach Superpole - was eighth quickest and leading BMW rider.
