Davide Giugliano believes he can be a contender for his first World Superbike Championship victory at Jerez after qualifying on the front row, despite struggling to get the best from his qualifying tyre.

The Italian came into Superpole having topped Q1 and Q2, but while he was quick again when it mattered in Superpole, he believes he could have gone faster had he not struggled for balance with the qualifying tyre beneath him.

Going on to claim a front row start, the in-form Giugliano - who has finished inside the top six in seven of the last eight races - feels he has the form to challenge for a maiden victory with Althea Aprilia.

"I'm really pleased to have scored a front row start. We could have done even better, but I was unable to make a perfect lap with the qualifier and so closed with the third fastest time which is nevertheless satisfying because I've shown consistency over the weekend.

"We have good race pace and the bike is well set up so I hope I can make two good races. Now I want to rest and wait for tomorrow so that I'm ready to give it my all."
