Morais to WSBK EVO with Grillini Kawasaki

12 November 2013

Team Grillini has become the first team to officially confirm it will enter the newly-created World Superbike EVO category in 2014 with a pair of Kawasakis contested by Supersport front runner Sheridan Morais and an as-yet-unnamed rider.

The Italian team has spent the last two seasons running a single BMW S1000RR, but will double up and switch to Kawasaki machinery for 2014 to coincide with an entry into the new EVO sub-category, which will run alongside the main Superbike class.

Leading the team will be former South African Superbike champion Morais, who steps up from the Supersport category after two full seasons in the intermediate class.

Though he has enjoyed success at Supersport level, peaking with a podium en route to sixth overall with Kawasaki Lorenzini in 2012, Morais is no stranger to Superbike machinery either having contested eight wild-card races in the last few years.

With this in mind, team manager Andrea Grillni is delighted to have signed the popular 28-year-old to his expanding outfit.

"I'm very happy with how things are shaping up for 2014" said Team Manager Andrea Grillini. "I've been keeping an eye on Sheridan Morais for a long time and I'm happy he chose to race with us next year. We are still negotiating with the second rider, but in a few days we will make an official announcement."

Though several teams have declared an interest in the new EVO class, Team Grillini is the first to officially firm its plans, with others – including Mahi Racing and Pedercini – set to follow suit shortly.

The EVO class will comprise of bikes that retain the same chassis, suspension and brake components as the equivalent Superbikes, but the engine and electronics will conform to current Superstock regulations.
