With the opening round of the 2014 World Superbike Championship now less than three weeks away, the final stage of private pre-season testing is set to get underway with a two day outing at Jerez for a handful of teams.
Significantly, the test will signal the return of 2013 WSBK title contender Sylvain Guintoli, the Frenchman set to throw his leg over the Aprilia for the first time since October following two operations on his injured shoulder.
Guintoli will be joined on track by new team-mate Marco Melandri on the RSV4, the Italian having already enjoyed a pre-season outing aboard the bike this year at Portimao last month.
Also present at Jerez will be reigning champion Tom Sykes and Kawasaki team-mate Loris Baz, while David Salom on the EVO-specification Provec Racing-prepared ZX-10R will also be operating alongside the factory pair.
In addition, PATA Honda will participate with Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam, as well as test rider Michele Magnoni, assuming rider duties, while EVO participants Jeremy Guarnoni (MRS Kawasaki) and Alessandro Andreozzi (Pedercini) will also be on track.
The opening round of the 2014 World Superbike Championship will take place at Phillip Island on 21-23 February, with an official two-day test taking place at the same circuit on 17th and 18th (Monday and Tuesday).
