Kawasaki riders Tom Sykes and Loris Baz head to Australia for the opening round of the 2014 World Superbike Championship on a positive note after pacing the two-day private test at Jerez.
Sharing track time with rivals Aprilia and Pata Honda, Sykes and Baz lapped the Spanish circuit in 1min 42.1 and 1min 42.2secs respectively to the lead the way.
Coming on the second day of action after the first day was washed out by poor weather, Sykes and Baz were three tenths quicker than third place man Marco Melandri, the new Aprilia signing bouncing back after a spectacular, but harmless, crash on day one.
Jonathan Rea matched Melandri with a lap time of 1min 42.4secs, while Sylvain Guintoli was a further tenth back on the second Aprilia as the Frenchman enjoyed his first full day of riding since the final round of the 2013 season in October.
Elsewhere, the three championship class teams were joined by a trio of Kawasaki EVO contenders, with Superstock 1000 graduate Jeremy Guarnoni impressing with his lap time of 1min 43.5secs, just over a second slower than the pace setters and quicker than Leon Haslam on the PATA Honda.
In addition, David Salom and Alessandro Andreozzi on the respective KRT and Pedercini ZX-10Rs, lapping in 1min 44.1 and 1min 44.5secs.
