Fast-learner Lowes up to speed in Phillip Island test

Alex Lowes gets himself straight up to speed at Phillip Island as he completes the first day of pre-season testing inside the top five.
Alex Lowes has wasted no time in making his mark on the World Superbike class at Phillip Island as he pumped in the fifth fastest time on his debut around the Australian venue.

The reigning British Superbike Champion steps up to World Superbikes this season with Voltcom Crescent Suzuki and comes to Australia having proven something of a revelation in private testing by quickly mingling with more experienced rivals.

Tackling Phillip Island for the first time today as part of the two-day official pre-season test, though Lowes was hampered by a crash in the morning, his big gains in the afternoon lifted him to the fifth fastest time of the day, less than half a second adrift from pace setting team-mate Eugene Laverty.

Enjoying his first outing around the sweeping Phillip Island circuit, Lowes was delighted to be up to speed already.

“Today was good fun! It's always difficult coming to a new track but Phillip Island is a track that I have dreamed of racing on since I was a kid, I was really looking forward to it and it didn't disappoint. It's quite difficult to learn because of the speed but it's fantastic. I love the last corner and Stoner Corner is probably one of the best I've ever ridden around.

“I had a couple of issues with the bike this morning and missed a bit of time and had a little crash, which was my fault, but the Yoshimura-powered GSX-R has performed better every time I've been out. We've taken some good steps in the right direction and hopefully we'll continue to do more tomorrow. I'm reasonably happy with where we are and I'm looking forward to tomorrow.”

When you are a natural on a bike it doesn't take any time at all to get up to speed!! Alex is going to be a great addition to W.S.B. and will give all the top riders a shock to their systems and a real headache to contend with!! Go for it Alex !!!!
