World Superbike newcomer Alex Lowes has hailed his eye-catching run to the top three following official pre-season testing at Phillip Island as he matched Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team-mate Eugene Laverty for pace on the second day.

Having already made an impression with a run to the top five on his first day lapping the Australian venue, Lowes proceeded to go even faster on day two, jostling for the top spot with Tom Sykes with a lap time just three tenths from the lap record.

Putting him on a par with Laverty, it was a sparkling performance by Lowes ahead of his full-time WSBK debut, the youngster lauding his result by joking that he has adapted to the Suzuki GSX-R1000 quickly because it is a bit like him...

"The test has been good. I'm happy to be in the top-three overall over the two-days. I've worked really hard, I was consistent this afternoon, we had a few issues but it would be impossible not to be happy really. I don't think many people expected me to be this close already and with a couple of days to reflect we should be in a stronger position for the weekend.

"I'm loving riding the GSX-R, it's a bike you can really push and it seems to be a bit like me - the harder it's worked the better it goes! Thanks to everyone on the team, we have a great atmosphere and I'm enjoying myself."

Defending British Superbike Champion Lowes makes his full-scale WSBK debut in 2014 having made a handful of starts with Castrol Honda in 2011.
