Glenn Allerton will ride in the opening round of the 2014 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island after being called up by BMW Italia to replace the injured Sylvain Barrier.

The Australian is no stranger to the WSBK paddock or the BMW S1000RR he will be riding having made two wild-card appearances last season, once on home soil at Phillip Island and again in the United States at Laguna Seca.

The Australian, who scored points on his appearance at Phillip Island last season, takes the place of Barrier in the BMW Italia SBK team after the double Superstock 1000 champion suffered a fractured pelvis in an accident during testing.
