Christian Iddon has hailed his chance to step up to the World Superbike Championship as a 'wonderful opportunity' as he prepares to make his category debut with the Alstare Bimota team.

Though Iddon's journey to his WSBK debut at Motorland Aragon has been somewhat fraught, with Bimota's participation in doubt at one stage due to strict homologation rules that would have rendered the BB3 unable to meet production demands, the British rider is excited ahead of his maiden outing.

Getting his first taste of the BMW-engined bike during a shakedown at Portimao, though inclement weather prevented him from making too much progress, he cannot wait to get going.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for me and I am so happy to have been given this chance. The Alstare team is one of the strongest in the championship and have been around a long time, so there is a lot of experience there. We cannot control the weather, but despite the pretty awful conditions, I found the tests productive - especially the last afternoon when I just went in and out and the team were able to try a few ideas and collect a lot of data.

"It was pretty cold, as well as wet, but I wanted to put in the laps and give the team as much info as possible. In conditions like we had these past days, it is hard to tell how the bike is going to be, but it feels stable and I like the way the engine makes power.

"There's a lot more to learn and many things to try, but I really like this kind of challenge and I'm really up for it and cannot wait to crack on."
